The Godfather of CVL
by Isabelle Boutet.
Carmelo was born and raised in Montréal’s Little Italy. Through his childhood, Carmelo came to realize that there are many advantages to being of Italian origin, from eating amazing food and being trilingual, to benefiting from the shield of safety that comes from being the son of a “Don”. Yes, Carmelo’ s parents were indeed born in Sicily!
Carmelo graduated from Concordia in Psychology in 1979. Since then, he has managed to work in five different labs at McGill, get a degree in Pattern Making and Designing, and start his own company.
This record illustrates Carmelo’s dedication and versatility. Since he has started working at CVL, we have quickly realized that Carmelo is always ready to lend a hand, he has even offered us to get his “good-fellas” to do the job. If there is one thing Carmelo learned from his long experience as a lab technician, it is that every lab needs “protection” and he can certainly provide it!
Carmelo's recent response to the question “what would you like to add to your page?” was: “I really love being here!”
Carmelo’s hobbies:
• To read French literature from the 20th century. Emile Zola is one of his favorite authors. He also enjoys reading in Italian. He highly recommends Elsa Morante’s “La Storia” and Italo Svevo's “La Coscienza di Zeno”.
• He also enjoys cooking, although not necessarily Italian cuisine. His claims to fame are Pesto-Pizza and Biscotti.
• One of his favorite activities is to take long walks in the heart of the city, followed by a chat with friends over coffee in a smoke-free environment.
